Male Breast Reduction

Tight, square pectoral muscles are one of the most obvious signs of a fit masculine torso. But more than half of men over the age of 35 have enlarged breasts. Lots of these men suffer embarrassment, anxiety, and have issues with their self-confidence.

Men who have developed female-like breasts, or “man boobs,” suffer from a condition known as gynecomastia. This results in firm glandular tissue and fat which gets between the pectoralis muscle and the nipple and skin, causing a less masculine profile. Gynecomastia is not your fault, and it can be corrected!

Causes of Gynecomastia

This problem often manifests during the teenage years, and it may be caused by one or several factors such as:

  • Genetics
  • Obesity
  • Steroids
  • THC Use
  • Hormonal Imbalance
  • Natural Aging

The specific cause of breast development in men is almost always unknown. But male breast enlargement ALWAYS can be treated. When left untreated, gynecomastia can cause low self-esteem or even clinical depression. It almost always impacts an affected man’s quality of life.

Can Gynecomastia be Treated with Excercise?

Unfortunately, the answer almost always is “no.” Exercise will build up muscle behind the unwanted tissue but will not get rid of it. For most men, either liposuction or male breast reduction surgery is needed to address gynecomastia adequately.

For men whose enlarged breasts are largely due to obesity, weight loss can be very helpful, but it usually does not completely get rid of the excess skin or glandular tissue which is the cause of the problem.

When the main causes of gynecomastia are excess skin and glandular tissue, exercise alone will never solve the problem. Only surgery will help – either liposuction alone (for men with just a little excess tissue) or direct skin and gland excision (for men with excess skin or larger glands).

Although overweight men may see some improvement with exercise and weight loss, these methods alone will not get rid of the gynecomastia. Because of this, male breast reduction surgery is the definitive treatment for the vast majority of men with excess chest wall glandular tissue or skin.

Surgical Techniques for Male Breast Reduction

Not everybody is built the same. Gynecomastia consists of excess skin, fat, and glandular tissue, with everyone having different proportions of each component.

Thin men usually have more glandular tissue and very little fat or excess skin. They do well with liposuction only.

Overweight men tend to have excess skin and fat as well as glandular tissue. They almost always need to undergo a skin excision with or without liposuction.

Gynecomastia surgery is tailored for each man’s needs, with the goal of creating a masculine upper torso. Incisions are placed so that they are hidden by the lower border of the pectoralis muscle, inside the armpit, or at the edge of the areola. Gynecomastia surgery patients have dramatic results are uniformly pleased with their results.

Patients wear a compression garment for three to six weeks after the surgery. This prevents swelling and fluid collections, and it feels good to have some pressure on the surgical site. This compression garment also helps your scars heal more quickly and aids in a speedy recovery and makes the results of the procedure more permanent.

Depending on the extend of the procedure, some patients experience bruising and mild discomfort afterward. Dr. Ingram will prescribe oral narcotics to relieve any discomfort. Most patients resume work and normal activities within five days. You can exercise your lower body three to five days after surgery, can start back on your biceps and triceps at one week, but won’t want to do a chest or back workout for about ten days. Swelling lasts for up to three weeks and then gradually dissipates to reveal the final results.

How much does Male Breast Reduction Cost?

The cost of surgery depends on how much work needs to be done. Below are our all-inclusive prices, which include surgery, anesthesia, and all postoperative care, based on the type of procedure you need (NOT on your size or the amount of excision that is required).

This was the best decision I ever made! Extremely happy with results and with everyone! Very friendly environment and every single person was so nice. I did years of research on different doctors and locations as well as what I wanted done. I looked at so many before and after pictures. I couldn’t have made a better choice. Dr. Ingram was phenomenal. Both staffs at the Nashville location and the Tullahoma locations were great! Very relaxing atmosphere. Non judgmental staff. Perfect!!
