Breast augmentation in Nashville enhances the size, shape, and firmness of a woman’s breasts.
If your breasts don’t look and feel exactly how you want, breast implants can do more than increase your breast size. They can also help you regain the fullness you may have lost after pregnancy or weight loss, and they can correct asymmetrical breasts or nipples that are pointing down or to the sides.
The improved self-confidence our patients feel after breast augmentation is one reason why breast augmentation is the most popular cosmetic surgery in the country year after year.
Most of our patients have thought about undergoing breast augmentation surgery for years before they come to see us. Once they decide to go ahead with the surgery, however, the process is surprisingly simple from their perspective.
After one or two consultations, during which Dr. Ingram and you will discuss exactly how breast augmentation procedures can help you look and feel your best, your breast augmentation surgery itself will require only about one hour in the operating room.
Dr. Ingram will make a small incision (usually about one to two inches long) underneath your breast, in the fold where your breast and chest wall meet.
Then he will insert saline or silicone breast implants either behind your breast tissue or under the pectoral muscle, depending on your body and the look and feel you want after surgery.
After your surgery, sterile dressings will be placed in the operating room, and then you’ll spend a half hour or so in the recovery room, while our staff ensures that you’re completely ready to go home.
You will go home the same day as your procedure, and our patients typically return to work within a few days. We like you to get back to fairly normal activities within the first week, although you will have some restrictions on strenuous upper body activity for two or three weeks following surgery.
At your initial consultation, you and Dr. Ingram will discuss whether saline or silicone implants will work better for your body and your goals. Saline breast implants are less expensive than silicone implants but feel a little firmer than most people’s natural breast tissue. They are inserted using a smaller incision, since they are placed in your body while empty and then are filled with a saltwater solution.
Saline implants tend to be best for women in their early to mid-twenties and for patients who have very little if any “ptosis” (looseness of the skin).
Silicone breast implants are pre-filled with a silicone gel and therefore need slightly longer incisions. They generally provide a more natural appearance and feel, especially when placed in front of the muscle or if you have lost some breast fullness due to childbirth, nursing, or weight loss.
If your breasts are small and firm before surgery, saline implants behind the muscle may give you a natural-feeling result and look, while patients with larger and softer breasts, and those with looser skin, frequently do better with silicone implants.
Because of the more natural feel of silicone, these implants generally do well over the chest muscle, while saline implants generally look and feel more natural under the muscle. Both saline and silicone implants come in many shapes, including round and teardrop.
There are many different viscosities (thicknesses of fluid) of silicone implants. Gummy bear breast implants are a popular option that eliminate the chance of leaks. These form-stable implants contain a highly cohesive silicone gel.
Dr. Ingram has worked with for decades with many types of implants and even participated in the initial FDA trials which led to the development of the teardrop and gummy bear implants.
Please bring several photographs (screenshots from your phone are great) of what you see as the ideal bust to your consultation. Photos are a great way of communicating what you feel is the right size, shape, fullness, and cleavage for you.
After speaking with Dr. Ingram at your consultation about the pros and cons of each type of implant, you will decide on which incision, implant type, and implant size is best for you.
After that, keep looking at photos and thinking about what you want, as well as what you don’t want, since we will see you again at your preoperative visit and again on the day of your surgery.
The better you can tell Dr. Ingram exactly how you want to look during your many preoperative meetings, the better he can help you reach your goals.
Ideal candidates for breast augmentation are women who have small or asymmetrical breasts and want to change the shape and size of their breasts.
Depending on your body, you may also want to discuss whether a breast augmentation with lift may help you and Dr. Ingram achieve your goals. Combining a breast lift and implants allows for more comprehensive breast enhancement. A breast lift without implants may be your ideal option if you are only looking to lift sagging breasts.
After taking a complete medical history from you in order to ensure that your surgery will be completely safe, you and Dr. Ingram will discuss your preoperative shape and your cosmetic goals at length. This will help Dr. Ingram determine the best way to help you look and feel the way you have always wanted.
The best candidates for breast enlargement have realistic expectations in terms of results. To help develop expectations, look over the breast augmentation before and after photos in our gallery.
The cost of your breast enlargement will be based on the specific details of your procedure. The price of the chosen implants, the techniques used, and the total surgical time can all affect the final cost.
